Minetest Mods

Some mods have dependencies on other mods to be able to function. I will list these where applicable and link to them in the "Dependencies" section at the bottom of this page. Some of the dependencies are actually built into "Minetest Game" so I will not list those.

Some also have optional dependencies but I will only reference these if I use them.

Most mods have configuration options available which are usually changed in one or more of the files. Some mods make their settings available in-game in the "All settings, Mods" section of the UI.

It's worth taking a look in the "readme.md" file that's included with most mods to see what options are available as well as for some general information about the mod's functions.

Mods currently in use

Mobs Animal

Download

Adds animals such as sheep and cows that you may know from Minecraft, as well as several others.

Mobs Monster

Download

if you're interested

Adds various hostile monsters with differing spawning criteria (biome, etc.)

Mobs Skeletons

Download

The Dirt Monster in Mobs Animals seems similar to Minecraft's zombie, but there are no skeletons. This adds skeletons.

Water Life

Download

Adds both hostile and non-hostile things to water.

Sprint

Download updated version with my changes

Original source

Adds a sprint function (this wasn't in the official repository). I fixed a couple of bugs which may have been a side effect of being created for an older version of Minetest and not being updated since, and also added compatibility with some physics mods. My changes are documented in the source files (as Chiizujin).

3D Armor

Download

Adds a few variations of armour as well as creating a place for it to go in the UI. The base "Minetest Game" doesn't have armour, making it very easy to be killed by the hostile monsters from the other mods.

Item Drop

Download

Collection of items in Minetest works a different way to Minecraft. Items go into your inventory when you mine them directly (stone, coal, etc.) and dropped items (tree saplings, apples, etc.) must be manually picked up by clicking them.

This mod returns to the Minecraft way of doing things -- mined items drop to the floor and dropped items are automatically picked up.

If you want to retain the auto-collecting of directly mined items you can disable "enable item drop" in its settings. This gives you the best of both worlds.

Signs Lib

Download

The default Minetest signs attach to walls and floors and do not display the text on them -- you need to hover the reticle over the sign to display the text at the top left of the screen.

This mod changes that behaviour so that text is displayed on the signs and adds more options for placement (even on the front of a chest) as well as a few other things.

Wooden Bucket

Download

It's a pain not being able to make buckets until you find iron, so this mod fixes that.

Charcoal

Download

It's always useful to be able to burn trees into charcoal as a backup method of creating torches. That doesn't exist in base Minetest so this mod adds it.

Mods I'm considering or plan to add as the need arises

I have not yet tried any of these, so they may not end up being used at all.

Bows

Download

The base game doesn't have bows, which I consider to be essential when mobs are involved.

Mob Horse

Download

When horses came to Minecraft they were a great addition. I don't really need one yet but I'll probably give this a try before I do any serious overland exploration.

Farming Redo

Download

For now I'm just going to use the default crops (which I think are wheat and cotton) but some new crops might be good later.

Morelights

Download

Adds additional lighting options. Sometimes you want something a bit nicer than torches or something that fits better with what you're building.

Prestibags

Download

Sort of portable chests. I don't know if I'll use these but they looked interesting.

Mobs NPC

Download

Adds a trader. I'm not sure exactly how this works or if it'll even be very useful as I didn't really use the traders much in Minecraft, but I'll probably try it out at some point.

Mesecons

Download

Adds electronics, similar to Minecraft's redstone.

Ethereal NG

Download

Adds more biomes. I'm not sure how Minetest generates its worlds but his may be better off suited to a new world if I end up having to travel too far to generate the new biomes.

Nether

Download

I didn't spend a whole lot of time in Minecraft's Nether but it might be worth a look.

Mods I'm no longer using

Regional Weather

Download

Adds weather based on biome.

By default, this mod changes the player's speed slightly based on the wind speed. This can be disabled, but if you want to use this feature and also use the sprint mod from this page then you will need an additional mod so that they can both operate together correctly. See "Physics mods" at the bottom of this page.

Physics mods

If more than one mod attempts to change the player's physics then one of them will likely not work correctly. "Regional Weather" and "Sprint" on this page are two such mods that will clash with each other, causing the sprint not to function if wind effects are enabled in Regional Weather.

There are two mods (that I know of) that can be used to fix this as long as the clashing mods support them. All you need to do is install one of the mods below. You don't need to do anything special, just have the mod activated. Also make sure you use the version of Sprint that has my changes as this adds support for these physics mods. Neither of these are from the official repository.
